Day 4 Continues

Well, the blood culture is still showing negative (very good thing).
There was 2 different things found in the urine which are being treated with the antibiotics that she is currently on. She will be sent home with antibiotics and we will bring her back in for some further testing after she has gone through the intial treatment. After the study is done the Drs will determine what the next step is.
Aine is doing better with her heartrate, breathing, and oxygen saturation are doing well & holding steady.
I got a great upper today because Liam, Cindy, Nick, & Justin came to visit us today. It was great to get to see my little man and get a bunch of hugs & kisses from him. We tried to introduce him to the little boy a couple of doors down, but he wanted nothing to do with it. Guess he didn't want to share anyone today :(

THanks for all the prayers & thoughts we really appreciate them!

Day 4

Another one bites the dust :) (day that is)
We can mark yet another day off the calendar and can look forward to at least 2 more here. They are going to do an echocardiogram on Aine to verify that her heart is still looking good & no changes can be seen.
They are concerned that the increased heartrate, increased respiratory rate & the decreased oxygen saturation are being caused by the open sturnum that she currently has.
As for the labs that I previously mentioned - As of now the blood culture has come back negative (it still needs to run for another 48 hours for a finalization & more blood will need to be cultured to verify the negative results). We are waiting for the sensitivity results of the urine, which I have been told can take 2 days to get back. She is on 2 heavy duty antibiotics, so hopefully all will start to look up from this point on.

Day 3

Still here, still waiting.
So, if your guessing that I'm climbing the walls ready to get our daughter out of here you would be correct.
I don't have a ton of news at this time, but what I can tell you is this:
The PICC line was pulled yesterday, a new line was placed and blood was drawn for a culture to make sure that the infection has not gone systemic (given some more time the PICC blood culture came up positive :( they are working on finding out what strain it came up positive with. The urine should be going through a sensitivity test (as long as there was enough growth to get the sensitivity). Immunology got their turn at requesting the vampires to come out & we are waiting to see how her T-cells are actually working.
The vampires are coming again & some more labs will be drawn.
I wish that I had more answers, but right now we are in a whirlwind of hurry up and wait.
She's sleeping peacefully right now (or was while I was typing this). I will continue to write blibs as we go.

Day 2

We are still here :(
They are calling for additional testing on the urine that they collected yesterday to see what the rods are sensitive to - but on a positive note as of this time the blood culture is negative :) YEAH ME!!! (You can't see the happy dance, but it leads to us doing a Great job with the PICC line).
We are destined to be here one more night :( Get a change of antibiotics, have further testing done & come back in a few weeks for more testing.
On a positive note the preliminary reading of the ultrasound was good with no signs of problems.

Hospital Time

We were doing soo well and then.....
Along came the rain & washed the spider out.....
Aine had her G-tube button replaced on Thursday to a smaller version (good for little bodies & learning to move & groove). All was going well until Sat Morning when Pop! Out came the Button & off to the emergency room we did run.
The Dr placed another Button (with lots of work) and sent us on our way with signs & symptoms to watch for.
Well..... 5 hours later to my dismay the balloon part of the button (which holds the button in her stomach) deflated & POP! Out came the button! Luckily this time I was better prepared with a catheter that would fit into the quickly shrinking hole & off to the ER we went. The placement was easier this time, but more trauma to the skin - so yup, momma cried because her baby girl was oozing blood.
Well, as you would imagine; Aine slept the rest of the day away, waking up to tell us if we were minutes late for her feedings or if she was uncomfortable.
Neither one of us thought anything of Aine sleeping all day due to all the trauma she had gone through, too bad for Aine as we ended up once again in the ER with a little princess spiking a fever of 101.9 - no good for a heart baby who already has a high heart rate & elevated blood pressure.
We opted to have the works done (x-ray, bloodwork, urine, cultures). X-ray = Good, Lab work = high white blood count, urine = high white blood cells. Diagnosis = Urinary Tract Infection! Who knew???
Soo.... We are now inpatients at the hospital waiting for her temp to stabilize, pump some antibiotics through her, and see what the culture has to say about her urine along with make sure there is nothing in the blood culture.
On a positive side, everyone seems very happy about her progress & how big she has gotten. She is a Whopping 3.2kg!! (over 9#'s)

Liam is doing wonderful during this whole adventure & we couldn't ask for a better big brother. He is soo caring and loving to Aine & seems to think about her all the time. He got to go to the game fair today with his daddy & grandpa Casey (& yes, he tried to talk daddy into getting him a puppy! to which Daddy said no - Poor Guy)

So, to sum it up.
Out came the sun & dried all the rain & the Casey family will have a wonderful day!

Good News all around :)

It feels soo good to be able to sit down and type out some good news for a change.
I'm sure you have been wondering how things have been going around the Casey Castle & I will surely tell you it is still a Crazy Crazy ride!
Liam is still Liam - crazy little guy who loves to challenge me & find new ways to have fun. He is so confident with climbing the ladder up to his playhouse that he is now bringing sticks up with him (not with my permission of course :)- I am Very happy to say that he has not had an accident (day or night) for the last 3 weeks!! I am thinking I am going to deem him as 100% potty trained - even with all the stuff that is going on.
Aine is up to 9 pounds!! She's still a very tiny tot, but she probably always will be. Her chest wound is healing very well & the surgeon doesn't want to take her back to the OR until her big surgery - so YEAH all the way around.
She has been cleared from the blood clot in her leg, so she is now all of her lovenox shot - SOOO Happy day - that thing was a Killer!
We are still looking at another open heart surgery when she is 6-9 kg (but we will continue to keep a close eye on her & discuss with the doctors if she needs to go in sooner or later).

Aine 4 months
